Here’s a collection of Think-Pieces

by Beverley Courtney

challenging your perceptions - so you can see your dog differently!

Do you have a problem dog?

Is your dog a problem? Or does he do things that are a problem? Perhaps it's us who need to shift our perception - to stop it being a problem!

What do you expect of your dog?

Maybe our expectations aren't realistic. Maybe we're thinking of our old dog when we're looking at our fresh, new, dog?

Expectation - Puppies

Do you expect your new puppy somehow to understand English and know just what you mean? Have a thought for her newness and babyness, and change your approach!

Don’t keep going!

"Really? But I thought I had to keep going with my reactive, anxious dog?" Yes, you do - but only as long as what you're doing is helping! Otherwise you need to formulate a new plan. We're using the example of fear of traffic here - but it could be any fear.

The past is ancient history

What's happened has happened. There's no use poring over it - but do take the learning from it and move forward!

Dogs are doers

Dogs do ... what dogs do. They don't have an ulterior motive. They're not trying to manipulate or rule you when they don't do something you want!

Your dog is the same dog!

But are you the same owner? Find out how changing your perception of your reactive dog can make all the difference to how things improve.

Touching dog owners' lives

I am fortunate to be able to help desperate dog-owners find a way to make change with their reactive dog.

Your dog wasn't born knowing this!

>

Whether it's walking nicely on the lead, not pinching food from the worktops, sleeping in her bed and not yours ... you have to actually teach your dog!

Is it possible for a dog to be reactive to quiet?

A puzzled owner of a reactive dog posed this question recently. You may be surprised to learn the answer, and the reasons!

Shouldn't my dog come when I call him?

It's a commonly-held belief that dogs arrive with us with a fully-functional recall already installed! Find out the truth about dogs and recalls in this thought-provoking piece.

It's ok to hurt a dog to get what we want

Really? We've all decided that hurting children is not good. Why not dogs and other animals too? Watch this video to hear the truth.

My dog knows when he's done wrong

Really? Do you really think he does know? Because he's grovelling and creeping and grinning? Think again! It's just his way of showing that he's afraid of you, and he has NO idea why you're angry.

My growly dog can't change

Don't give up on your precious dog! Of course he can change! You have to do some changing too, but it's fun and will lead you to happier walks and all-round more mutual trust and companionship.

What's your biggest problem with your dog?

And what's your biggest frustration? Barking and lunging on walks? Not allowing any visitors to your house? You can't take holidays any more?
